Proof of address validation
Overview. Alongside identity verification, IdentityCheck offers proof-of-address validation. It uses AI to read a client's uploaded document, identify what it is, and extract the address so your staff can compare it against what the client entered. It is added to your account on request and an additional cost applies. It is there to support your firm's due diligence, not to replace your judgement.
Can I verify proof of address?
Yes, as a supporting signal. When a client uploads a proof-of-address document on an intake or onboarding form, IdentityCheck reads it and uses AI to work out what type of document it is (for example a bank statement, utility bill, lease or tax document) and to pull out the address printed on it and, where present, the issue date.
Your staff see this on a Proof of Address Extraction card when they review the response, so they can compare the extracted address against what the client typed and against your other records. Supported upload types are PDF, JPG and PNG.
It is important to be modest about what this does. The document analysis is AI-assisted and best-effort. It is a supporting signal that helps your staff assess a document more quickly, not a hard gate that decides for you, and an extraction that cannot read a document does not stop the client's response from being saved. The decision about whether a piece of address evidence is acceptable stays with your firm, as part of its own due-diligence process.
How do I turn it on?
Proof-of-address validation is added to your account on request. There is no self-serve toggle: raise a support ticket and we enable the capability for you. An additional cost applies, so switching it on is a deliberate decision your firm makes.
Once it is enabled, add a proof-of-address field to the relevant form; you can also set an optional rule that the document must have been issued within a recent number of months. From then on, the extraction runs whenever a client uploads a document to that field.
